Skalpel
at a concert in Wrocław! Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło with the band will play on December 2 at the A2 Concert Center. We will hear the premiere material from the album "Origins" and classics from the group's repertoire.
The concert in A2 will take place exactly 3 years after the excellent performance of Skalpel Big Band at the NFM.

After the success of the album "Highlight" and the single "Escape" remixed by Hani Rani, the creators of Skalpel - Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło felt that the jazz and electronic formula they had developed still evokes vivid emotions. Their self-confidence was also boosted by well-received live concerts. "Origins" is therefore a more daring and sonically diverse album. Skalpel, remaining faithful to their roots, escape from routine, looking for inter-genre connections. On "Origins" we will find both jazz and drum'n'bass, downtempo and electro, trip-hop and balearic, breakbeat, hiphop, Krautrock.

“This album is a kind of prequel. On it we return to the music of the 90s, which we listened to and which inspired us before we discovered the potential of jazz sounds. A bit of a fictitious compilation like those once released by Mo'Wax, Ninja Tune, Wall of Sound, !K7. Nostalgia is mixed here with the desire to update those ideas and give them a contemporary sound. At the same time, it is an eyewitness and ear-witness account of one of the most interesting chapters in the history of electronic music.” explains Igor. The album "Origins" will be released on November 4 via NoPaper Records / !k7.

For years, Skalpel has been combining inspiration with local jazz tradition with fascination with the possibilities of new electronics. The duo's first two releases: "Skalpel" and "Konfusion" recorded for the Ninja Tune label, resulted in excellent reviews in prestigious music titles: from NME, through Pitchfork, The Wire to DJ Magazine and concerts around the world. Discs from the Ninja Tune catalog are today considered classics of jazztronics, and the next "Transit" (2014) and "Highlight" (2020) are an excellent update and modification of the duo's unique analog-digital sound. The latter position in the world was released in cooperation with the cult publishing house !K7 Records (including Tosca, Tricky). It was accompanied by a digital release with remixes by Hani Rani, Catz' n Dogz and Hatti Vatti. Skalpel's albums were on the Polish list of Olis bestsellers (the last "Highlight" from 2020 was ranked 13th), while vinyl editions are bought by collectors from the farthest corners of the globe. Winners of such awards as Polityka's Passport, The Man with the Golden Ear, the Wrocław Artistic Award, nominated for the Fryderyk Award and the BBC Gilles Peterson Award.
